In Auschwitz

"I used to go to church for blessings or confirmation and I don´t know what else. And then when you see...If only God could watch that...These camps...Indescribable...It didn´t happen in our camp, but in other camps they used to gather the dead bodies into the ditch with a digger. That was something terrible. You realized there that you´re nothing. I´m still having nightmares about it even though it is so long time ago."

  • he was born on September 13th 1923 in Charváty village
  • in June of 1943 got arrested for suspicion of collaboration with the resistance group
  • he was sent to Auschwitz - originally to forced labor
  • he worked on the construction of the I.G. Farben company (led by Prague´s construction company Sedlák)
  • at the beginning of 1944 he managed to escape from the camp
  • he worked in a warehouse in Olomouc; later became the union leader
  • he was a national specialist and refused to enter the Communist party
  • in 1950 he got arrested and sentenced to one and a half of years in Jáchymov mine
  • in September 1951he was acquitted by Carlsbad court
  • he worked in Moravian Ironworks factory
  • presently lives in Olomouc
